Hazelle Jackson is a writer and editor with a special
interest in historic landscapes.
I am the author of Shell House and Grottoes (Shire
Publications, 2001) and several local history books. My articles have
appeared in Living History, Green Places, Historic
Gardens Review, The London Gardener, The Independent,
and other publications. I have a large photographic library of London
parks and green spaces and an extensive collection of historic postcards
of London and surrounding areas.
Professional activities include:
- Editor - I edit London Landscapes the newsletter of
the London Parks and
Gardens Trust and other publications.
- Historical consultant - I carry out research for clients into the
history of parks, gardens, garden features and advise on listing and
restoration. Recent clients have included the LB Harrow, Christchurch
Council and Dorset Gardens Trust.
- I am currently curating Change on the Heath - rediscovering
Surrey's forgotten wildnerness, an exhibition on life in the
Surrey Heathland for Surrey County Council and the Surrey
Heathland Project.
- Secretary, Outdoor Writers Guild (2003-06).
- I have a first degree in Social History (B.A.Soc.Sci. - Univ. of
Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and a PG Cert. in Heritage Management (Birmingham
University). I travelled and worked in France as a young woman and
later in Algeria and speak and write fluent French.
